Hi Neighbor!

I'm Russ James and my wife is Bennetta. We live on the old Hugh DICKSON farm located on Bethany Road in Houston Co. My mother-in-law was a DICKSON and also my wife has a HALLIBURTON line.

According to the book by William J. NESBITT, "The Primal Families of the Yellow Creek Valley" (1985):

William J. DICKSON b. 1837, d. 1903 was the son of John DICKSON and and Elizabeth DUNCAN. John DICKSON was the oldest son of my wife's gr. gr. gr. grandfather, Hugh DICKSON, who in 1803 bought the land upon with we now live.

Mary Martha ROBERTSON b. 1836, d. 1892 married William J. DICKSON.

A. Newton (Newt) DICKSON b. 1861, d.1938, was a son of William J. DICKSON. He married:

Nannie J. COLLIER b. 1860, d. 1926.

Mary Elizabeth DICKSON b. 1887, d. 1888 was a daughter of A. Newt DICKSON and and Nannie.

Lora (as Nesbitt shows) A. DICKSON b. 1865, d. 1885 was the second child of William J. DICKSON and Mary Martha.

I can not identify the two HALLIBURTONs.

Not 30 minutes ago Sarah DICKSON who lives on your side of Yellow Creek dropped by my house. A. Newt DICKSON was her grandfather! I stumbled across you post just after she left. Small world.

Quotes from Nesbitt:

page. 183

"Claud Dickson lives on land owned by his grandfather, and father on Bear Creek between Yellow Creek and Vanleer. Claud DICKSON married Lona ROBERTSON dau. of John ROBERTSON and wife, Georgiann PARCHMAN of Childress (Childers?) Branch of Yellow Creek. Claud and Lona have no children."

I think you must own the old Claud DICKSON place.

pg. 177

"A. Newton (Newt) DICKSON.....(and wife)...resided on Bear Creek near Vanleer, TN and are buried in the family cemetery there. It may be of interest to note that the house of Newt DICKSON (now the house of his son, Claud) sas orignally built by Isaac HILL, a pioneer settler on Bear Creek about the year 1810. This house later was occupied by George W. (Boss) HILL, born 1834, a son of Isaac HILL."

Is the old house still standing? If so, it has to be one of the oldest in the Yellow Creek Valley. My wife and I would like to see the cemetery sometime. If you have an interest the old DICKSON cemetery where the first Hugh DICKSON is probably buried is just across the road from us. No marker but his son, grandson and some great grandchildren are buried there with markers.

Thanks for posting the cemetery listing!!!!!

Russ James of Houston Co. TN
