Let me clarify - Fred Cross is present in the 1880 census in Tipton County, not Fayette County. My mistake. The two counties are side by side, and this family had property that spanned across the county line. In some census reports they are listed in one, and in some the other. In 1910 for instance, they are listed in both! At any rate, in 1880 you will find him listed as "Fed" Cross on page 31 of 44. The previous family listed (Thomas Kelly) is the family of Fred Cross' wife, if that helps. You can also find a brief history of both Fred Cross and Thomas (T.J.) Kelly in the Goodspeed volume for Tipton County.
