Trina, I have never know anything much about the family of Henry Cagle, Sr, ca 1760-1838. The 1800 Census shows his family in Cabarrus Co. NC: Henry Cagle 0211-1101, then in 1810, Henry Cagle, Sr. 00101-011 along with Henry Cagle, Jr. 001-001 and David Cagle 201-101. The son left in Henry Sr's household in 1810 would be George. I suspect that Henry Sr. also had a son Charles. Charles, George and Henry, Jr. Came to Hardin Co., TN in the 1820's. Henry Sr. along with another Henry and James Cagle arrived there between 1830 and 1833. Charles Cagle remained in adjacent McNairy Co., TN until 1837 and went to who knows where. Henry Jr., my g/g/g/grandfather and George moved to New Madrid Co., Mo in 1838, apparently soon after the death of Henry, Sr. Henry and James moved to AL as you can see in the material from Nadeen McOsker below. It is great to learn the name of a sister of my g/g/g/grandfather. I don't yet know the name of his first wife that was my g/g/g/grandmother. Can you tell me how you know that Eliza Ellen was the daughter of Henry Sr.? I hope you have additional information that you will share with me. My e-mail address is: dcagle1@charter.net if you want to contact me direct. David David, James Cagle (known as Jim by the family) was born in NC abt 1814. He is a son of Henry Cagle. James and Henry both appear on the 1833, 1834 & 1835 Hardin County, TN Tax List. (Only 1833 I believe, there are none for 34 and 35, DC) Henry Cagle, born 11 Jul 1793 in NC, is on the 1840 DeKalb County, AL census. (Henry is a son of Valentine Cagle. Proof is his birth recorded in Valentine's Family Bible. Valentine is a son of Johan "David" Dewalt Theobald Cagle, son of Leonhart Kegel.) James & Henry are both listed on the 1850 Hancock, AL census. He can also be found on the 1860, 1870 & 1880 census records of Winston County, AL. James married Sarah Bird who was born abt 1823 in Hardin County, TN. I have now been able to prove her parents as yet. (Help here would be appreciated.) James Cagle is listed as the father of Benjamin Alexander Cagle (b. 15 Aug 1850, d. 25 Apr 1920) on "Ben's" Death Certificate from the State of Tennessee, certificate #398, of Whitwell, Marion County. Does this information help? If you need more, feel free to ask as I know that my Cagles, Whitlows, Shaws, Merediths, Birds, Savage, Duckworth, Owens family lines from Hardin County, TN just seem to be hard to trace. Family records show they were there, but it has been hard for me to get the documents that I need. One of these days I want to make a trip to Hardin County and visit the court house there for myself to see what I can find. Does any of this ring any bells with you?
