Hardin/Tishomingo Line
Posted by: Dennis Date: December 26, 1999 at 13:12:11

My gggd James Wilson Jenkins came to Hardin Co in mid 1830's and applied for land grant in the 6th range section 1 in 1838. I was told that this is in the extreme SW corner of the county. I assumed he lived on the land. However, he appears on the 1840 and 1845 Tishomingo Co and on the 1850 Hardin Co censuses. His grant was approved in 1844. Did the line between the counties move during this time ? Or could this be an error by the census taker ? It appears some of his neighbors, the Garretts and Robertsons, were shifted around on the census also. It does appear that the southern boundary of Hardin Co west of the river is further south than the southern boundary east of the river. Any explanations ?
