Ben,
You are correct that this area was in possession of the Yankees from early 1862. But that didn't keep the Rebels from operationg in this area to recruit, etc.

My g/grandfather, Charles Cagle from Hardin Co., did not join the 1st Confederate Cav. Reg. until 1863. He also was captured while at home in early 1865.
