Hello Judy,
I'm a descendant of Dr. Peter Clarke's brother, Hugh McRaney Clarke, b. 17 Apr 1812 Cumberland Co., NC, d. 14 Dec 1872 Haywood Co., TN. He m. 26 Dec 1839 Madison Co., TN, Mary Jane Reid. Their issue: John A., Hugh McLean, Mary Ramsey, William Wirt, Catherine Ann, James H., and Benjamin Pinkney. Hugh McRainey Clarke was a Greek & Latin scholar, a Whig who represented Haywood Co. in 1845-47 TN General Assembly-House. He founded "The Brownsville Democrat" newspaper. His plantation was "Wellwood". The parents of Dr. Peter & Hugh McRainey were Heal Archibald Clark, b. ca. 1785, d. ca. 1838 Cumberland Co., NC, and his wife Catherine McCranie, b. 1784 Cumberland Co., NC, d. 1865 Haywood Co., TN, buried in Clarke-Currie Cemetery with several of her children.
We are cousins and should exchange info.
