Seeking info on children of Rev. James S. Smith, a Methodist minister, who moved from VA to Haywood co in 1831, according to the bio sketch on his step-son, Dr. Auguston ALSTON, in the History of Haywood Co. He had 5 children by his first wife, Elizabeth Julia GREEN, d/o Thomas GREEN Jr. and Elizabeth Julia BOOKER, of Prince Edward co VA. They were Carlos Green SMITH b. Oglethorpe co GA 18 Oct 1812(a prominent Alabama educator, the 6th Pres. of the U of AL); James S. SMITH b. abt 1815(1850 Haywood co census has him with a wife, Amanda; Robert SMITH, b. abt 1818; Thomas Green SMITH b. Jan 1820, d. 18 Oct 1869, bur. Oakwood Cemetery, Brownsville TN, m. Bethenia Hardin PATTON abt 1847, one known child, Thomas R. "Tiff" SMITH b. abt 1848 d. Aug 1885, m. Madora ALSTON, May 1870, d/o Dr. Auguston ALSTON; Nancy Flournoy SMITH, b. abt 1821. The latter 4 children were born in VA, probably Mecklenburg co. Did James S. SMITH and his wife move from Haywood co or did he die and she remarry? Where is Bethenia (PATTON) SMITH buried? did she remarry? Did Robert SMITH and Nancy Flournoy SMITH make the move to Haywood co and did they marry there? Rev. Smith's second wife was Martha (MACON) ALSTON SMITH. They had one son, William Macon SMITH, a prominent Republican lawyer in Memphis. Thanks for any help with this family.
