OWENS, BERRY, AKRIDGE, KINNAMON, FRENCH

James Lafayette (J.L.) OWENS was born 18 Feb 1859 "near Knoxville", orphaned as an infant and raised in the Maynardville area of Union County by an uncle & aunt - Jesse Wells BERRY & wife Eliza Jane AKRIDGE. Jesse was the son of Joseph Davis BERRY & Elizabeth KINNAMON, and Eliza was the second child and daughter of George W. AKRIDGE & Elizabeth FRENCH. Jesse & Eliza were married in Knox County on 21 Aug 1856.

It is my supposition that George and Elizabeth AKRIDGE's eldest child and daughter, Sarah A. was the same woman who was married in Knox County 23 Jul 1856 to John OWENS, and that they are the parents of the above J.L. Owens.

It seems most probable that Sarah AKRIDGE OWENS died in childbirth, and the child was taken by her sister, Eliza AKRIDGE BERRY. (The child is listed in the BERRY household on the 1860 census, as "J.L. Berry", in the same household on the 1870 census as "J.L. Owen", and in 1880 in the household of Ezra A. Hamilton as "James Owen".

Can anyone confirm or deny my assumptions? I am anxious to hear from any OWENS, AKRIDGE or BERRY researchers!
