Matthew Langford m. 19 Sec 1796 in Amherst Co, VA, Philadelphia Lyon. The part of Amherst in which they lived became Nelson Co. in 1808. In the 1810 census, Nelson Co., VA, Matthew Langford was age 26<45, with another male age 10<16, and three males under 10. The eldest female was listed as over 45, and one female was under 10. He is not found in the 1820 census, but in 1830, he was in Haywood Co., TN. He appears as age 50 to 60. Two other males were at home - one 40 to 50 (should be 30 to 40), and one 20 to 30. The only female was 40 to 50. Matthew is not listed in 1840, but in Haywood county were William Lankford, 40<50, and John D. Lankford, 30<40. William apparently was taking care of his mother (age 60<70), but John had married. His wife was 30 to 40 and the household shows 9 children under the age of 15, suggesting that his wife had been a widow with children and/or he had children of a deceased brother or sister. By 1850, William (age 52, b in VA) had married Camilla, 42, and listed as children Mary, 12; Matilda, 8; James, 5; and Charles, 6 months. John D. Lankford was 44 in that census, with wife Harriet S. being 40. They lived in Lauderdale co., where they are shown as marrying 11 Jun 1843 (John D. Lankford and Harriet S. Warren). Children shown in the census were: William J., 22 (b AL); Virginia, 19 (b TN); Frances F., 17; Martha D., 14; Peter L., 12; Cairo, 10; Philadelphia, 5; Harriet F., 3; and step-children Robert Warren, 17; John H. Warren, 12; and Walter Warren, 9. LOOKING FOR DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE of the presence of this family in Haywood and Lauderdale Counties. (Deeds - grantor, grantee, witness, neighbor; tax records; lawsuits; jurors; etc) Particular emphasis on the period between 1810 and 1870. Notify Administrator about this message?
