Mystery of G-Gpa Dougan that moved to Ripley

I am a bit stuck and I need some help. My husband's great-grandfather, James Albert Dougan, supposedly died in Ripley, TN on 23 Nov 1916. He was from Gibson Co., Indiana. He moved his wife and 3 sons down there to Lauderdale Co. some time between Feb-Nov 1912. (A 4th son died in Feb 1912 and is buried in Gibson Co. A 5th son was born Nov 1912 in Ripley.) I have no clue why he moved the family down there. Were there perhaps coal mining jobs in the area? I'm not familiar with the history of the area at all. I tried sending for a death certificate at the TN State Library and they couldn't find it. A cousin of my husband's gave me all the info she had on James Albert Dougan (he may have gone by Albert) which included the death date and a cemetery. Is there such a place as Ays Cemetery in Lauderdale Co.? At some point (bet. 1916-1920)after he died, his wife moved the family back to Gibson Co. where they remained. I want to find this man but just don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated.
