Captain Nathaniel Robards

Nathaniel Robards who married Mary Ridley in 1805 moved from Granville co NC to TN and died in Lawrenceburg, Lawrence co TN in 1854. Does anyone have information about his militry background? I am hoping that some of the family that remained in Lawrence co TN might have records that would establish military service during the War of 1812.

I am seeking information about the "Captain" that is used on some web sites with the name of Nathaniel Robards. Does that signify military service?

Also, in the book A HISTORY OF THE ROBARDS FAMILY by Bessie Robards Farrior, Nathaniel Robards is said to have served as High Sheriff of Granville county for 20 years.

I am attempting to establish Nathaniel Robards as a War of 1812 ancestor for a friend. Any help would surely be appreciated. Jane Clancy Debenport
