Seeking HAYES/PENNINGTON information Lawrence County, TN/ Dallas or Ellis County, TX.
Is CHARLEY G. HAYES the son of WILLIAM JAMES HAYES and RHODA M. PENNINGTON? And what happen to Rhoda Pennington Hayes?
The 1870 Lawrence County TN population census lists :
Young and Emily PENNINGTON with children including daughters
RODA age 12 and
MARTHA E. age 4. (Mariar?)
The 1880 Lawrence County TN population census list:
Young and Emily PENNINGTON with children including daughters
RHODA age 21,
M.E. age 14
Louida age 5.
Each of these daughters married HAYES men, William J. HAYES and Allen J.HAYES, who might have been brothers.
Allen J. HAYES married first Louida PENNINGTON and, following her death, married second Mariar PENNINGTON, said to be Louida’s sister. Allen was the brother of my great grandfather, John Wesley HAYES. They also had a brother named William J. HAYES, who might have been the husband of Rhoda PENNINGTON. John Wesley, William J. and Allen J. HAYES were all sons of William R. (or B.) HAYES and his wife, Sarah Allen HAYES of Lewis County TN. I am looking for information to prove/disprove my theory that the William HAYES who married Rhoda PENNINGTON was my ancestor.
William James HAYES married Rhoda M. PENNINGTON in Lawrence County, TN 16 Oct 1881. I can find no further information on this couple.
William J. HAYES, the son of William and Sarah HAYES, migrated to the Dallas/Ellis County, TX area along with a number of his siblings.
The 1900 Dallas County, TX census lists:
William J. HAYES, 42 born TN
Lucy, his wife, 32, born TN
and seven children including
CHARLEY G. HAYES, age 14 born July 875 (sic) (s/b 1885), born TN
The next 3 children, born 1888 to 1893, were born in TN and the last 3, born 1895-on were born in TX.
Although the data indicates that Lucy had been married 11 years, and was the mother of 7 children (the 7 appears to have been corrected from 6) - all living, the oldest child, Charley, is 14 years old.
The 1910 Ellis county, TX census lists:
William
wife, Frances,
and 11 children
It indicates they have been married 22 years and she is the mother of 10 children – all living. The census shows this is marriage number 1 for Frances, but marriage number 2 for William. Charley is now 23 years old and the next oldest child is age 21 (born Sep 1888 per the 1900 census). The LDS Ancestral File has a record of marriage between William Hayes and Lucy Frances FRANCIS in Midlothian, Ellis County TX in 1889, however I think this is could be an error based on census data.
