Shirly, I found information about John Smith records in Tennessee Records of Lewis County - Minutes of County Court 1846-1870 (Newburgh). It states, "Wiley Smith Appt. Admr. of John Smith - deceased. It appearing to the Court that John Smith formerly a citizen of the County of Lewis is dead and leaving no Will and Testament and Wiley Smith came in open Court and applied to be appointed Administrator of the estate of the said John Smith, which was granted by the Court after which he was duly qualified as such by entering unto bond and security which was examined and approved by the Court." Feb. Term 1847 (p. 8)
