I'm also a decendant of Annie Stringfellow Smith. She is my gggggrandmother. I believe I even know who the gentleman in the nursing home is. He is my great-uncle, I believe. These postings by "sammye" have been thrilling! He, or she is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! Thanks to you both for uncovering this info. I've been hunting off and on since 2000. I'm planning on driving up to Lewis county the next sunny Sunday that comes by. Sammye- is the man's last name O'Quin or O'Guinn?
The info I have so far, that was passed to me thru relatives is this.....
Annie Stringfellow (full blooded Cherokee) lived on a farm at the mouth of Indian Creek in Lewis County. Her son, Wylie was born there. His son Simeon was born there, who had a daughter, Artemius Albertine (Alber) Smith, also born there.....who married Joseph Cincinnatt(or Cincinnati)Brown and had my grandpa, Joseph Lytton Brown, born 1887.My great uncles were (I think they were uncles) Auro Brown, Arch Brown and perhaps Sherrill O'Guinn (he might be the man in the home).
Maybe this helps some...
