I am researching the family of Maj. Green GRIMES and Sarah NIXON of Maury County, Tennessee. Green GRIMES is the son of William GRIMES, and born in Orange County, North Carolina on February 12, 1809. He married Sarah NIXON, daughter of Rev. John NIXON and Elizabeth CRAGG, in June 1826 in Maury County. The puzzling nature of this family is that Sarah died August 07, 1845; at that time, Green GRIMES was an inmate in the Tennessee Lunatic Asylum in Nashville. While there, he would write two books, the title of one is "A Secret Worth Knowing," which examined insanity from the standpoint of the "insane." I have yet to find a date of death for Green GRIMES, although I have seen references to 1847, and no burial date or location (the former site of the asylum is currently occupied by a huge Dell Computer Corporation). According to "Records of Lewis County: Minutes of County Court 1846-1870," the following is transcribed on page 7: "James M. Grimes came in open Court and made application to be appointed Guardian of Thomas W. Grimes, Emily E. Grimes, Amanda J. Grimes, George J. Grimes, and Sarah Ann Grimes, minor heirs of John Nixon deceased, and entered into bond and gave such security as was accepted by the Court." Later transcribed on page 55 is the following: "When was presented to the Court a Settlement made by James M. Grimes, Admr. of Thos. W. Grimes- one by J. M. Grimes guardian of the heirs of Green Grimes- one made by Hugh C. Kirk, guardian of the mior heirs of Jacob Biffle dec'd, one by William Keeling adminstrator of John Keeling all of which were received by the Court and ordered to be recorded- There being no further business it is ordered that the Court adjourn till Courtn in course again." Does anyone have any information about the descendants of Green Grimes or who they might have lived with? I have been unable to positively identify them in the 1850 Censuses of Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Maury, or Wayne Counties, Tennessee. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks, Jason Goodrich Lawrenceburg, Tenn. Notify Administrator about this message?
