Dear Mary: According to the info in Alexander Kin Vol II, Leonidas Polk and Charles Alexander met some 15 miles from where he said that Charles lived on Swan Creek. They could have still met at the Coopers and Charles would then be some 15 miles from the Coopers on Swan Creek. Make sense? Leonidas said Charles had moved to Maury Co. "some 18 months ago" (said on Sep 8, 1834). Charles reportedly left Mecklenburg Co., NC, in 1814 and migrated to Giles Co., TN, near the Lincoln County line, where he lived until he moved to Maury Co. [all this on pg 429 Alexander Kin Vol II] Further down on the above page, "Charles was living in Lincoln Co., TN, when he began trying to collect from the government $2000. to compensate him for hauling he allegedly did for the armym, and for 400 bushels of corn he claimed to have sold to the army but for which he had not been paid. He wrote to James K. Polk from Cornersville, TN, 16 June 1832. [Cornersville is now in Marshall Co., TN, ...] A petition attached to his request was signed by a number of people who were living in Lincoln Co., and listed on the 1830 Census. [From papers of James K. Polk. The correspondence of James K. Polk is being published. Dr. Wayne Cutler at U. of TN edits the publication.]" There are a lot of papers involved and it is very expensive for me to buy. One day, perhaps I will find them in a local library. Thanks a bunch Mary for your help. Mac Alexander. Notify Administrator about this message?
