Thank you. I am researching surnames Johnson, Newsom, Lester and Anderson. My gg grandfather was James Johnson. His son Merrit, my gr grandfather, married Lamira Jane Lester. Her parents were John Madison Lester and Elizabeth Anderson. Elizabeths parents were Hiram King Anderson and Susan Newsom. Susan's parents were Balaam Newsom and wife Elizabeth. Information from another researcher says Balaam's wife was Elizabeth Howard.

I have (I think) identified James Johnson in the 1870 census by the initials and ages of the children along with his age which somewhat matches his age in 1850/1860. Since the census I see has only the initial it is difficult especially since there are so many Johnson's in Tennessee. The family was living in the 17th District in Jackson, Tennessee in Madison County in 1850/60/70/80. One of the things I cannot ascertain is the name of James Johnson's first wife who would be Merrit's mother. I found a marriage document between James Johnson and Mary Mullen in November of 1842 then there were 3 younger children born to the marriage. If you have anything that might help to identify James Johnson's first wife or anything else that would help, I would definitely appreciate it. My e mail address is mbmjlm22@aol.com

We will be out of town beginning Thursday through Monday.
