I live in Marion County. It was formed in 1817 after an Indian treaty. At that time Bledsoe County was due north. It was formed in 1807, and sometimes certain records for early Marion County people, especially land records, were recorded in Bledsoe County. Also, Franklin County, due west of here and also formed in 1807, has I am told, some early deeds pertinant to Marion County.

I descend from a Ransom Smith (1761-1854), a Revolutionary War veteran. He applied for a pension while living here in Marion County in 1832. One of his references was a "Michaeal Burkhalter, a clergyman". Is this your family?
