My ggg grandfather, Abner H. Snell, is listed in the 1850 Marshall County census (District 15) in the household of Vaden and Martha Stevens, along with George Arnold, Samuel Holding, James Holding and Elvin Holding.
Abner H. Snell married Elizabeth Mitchell and they had two children, Mary E. Snell and William C. Snell. The family is also listed in the 1860 Census in District 15 of Marshall County. Abner died three years later in the Civil War on January 19, 1863, and Elizabeth re-married to a blacksmith from Virginia called Thomas Strange.
My presumption is that Abner H. Snell is related to the Snells of Bedford and Rutherford Counties who descend from Roger Snell of North Carolina, but I have been unable to prove this. I would appreciate hearing from any Snell family genealogists and experts on the Roger Snell line who might be able to help me narrow my reearch and probable fathers for Abner.
As well, if the names I have mentioned from the 1850 census rings a bell (Stevens, Arnold, Holding), I'd appreciate any thoughts. There seems to be a migratory path from Rutherford to Bedford to Marshall for several families.
