Hi Everyone - I have been looking for information on my g grandmother now for over seven years. My great grandmother is Amie Catherine Vaughn who was born in Bethel Springs, McNairy County, TN. I remember my dad telling me that his grandmother was Cherokee. According to the 1910 MS census, Amie was living with her son (my grandfather) in Monroe County, MS in Aberdeen. This is where my father was born. The census indicates she was born about 1844; she moved to MS after the death of her husband. This census indicates she had given birth to 10 children, 7 of whom were living. However, my first cousin who knew my grandfather very well only knows of five of the children. Her husband was born in Ireland and we have never been able to track anything on him because he left there very young with his brother to get away from his father that was abusing them (or so goes the family story). When he came to the U.S., supposedly he illegally adopted the name of Brown, the family he first lived with. I'm told his Irish name was Henderson, Henley, or Hensley. As far as I know his American name was John E. Brown. All I know is that he died before 1910 and was from Kilkenny, Ireland. Danny of Washburn, IL did send me some info that had very similar names that he found in the 1900 census regarding a John Brown family with three sons whose names match, but not the dates. He indicated they were gone from the 1910 census which would have been correct since Amie moved with my grandfather to MS. The youngest of David's children was born in 1910 in MS. This info also indicates that John was born in Ireland and that he immigrated in 1856. I have the name of Ada as a daughter; his information has her as a daughter-in-law. However, none of the dates are exact matches only names of three of the children David, Henry, and Charlie. I knew of no other wife, but this could explain the 10 children. I cannot verify that this information matches that of Amie Catherine. He also indicated there was a John married to Annie Catherine Vaughn bured in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Hope to hear from anyone that may have some info from McNairy County. Susan Notify Administrator about this message?
