Jim, I have a book "A Compendium of Rhea and Meigs Counties, TN 1909 - 1850", by Bettye Broyles. There may be a clue as to your William Johnson who married in Meigs County. There's a William Johnson in the 1808, 1819 and 1823 Rhea County Tax Lists, Three Williams in the 1830 and 1840 Rhea census,one William in the 1849 Meigs census, two Williams in the 1850 Rhea census and one William in the 1850 Meigs census. tere are several other Johnson's in these census records.
If you think the information in this book I have would be helpful, I will scan and email you the two pages.
