The spelling in Sweden would be Bengtsson (Bengt's son; son of Bengt something) or Bengtsdotter (Bengt's daughter; daughter of Bengt something). Bengtsson (etc.) is not a family name.
Swedes mostly used patronymics until the law in 1901 requiring permanent family names. (The customs were changing in the last decades of the 1800s, however, and some changed earlier.) The children had a last name consisting of the father's given name plus (usually) a possessive s and then "son" for male children and "dotter" for female children.
There would have been hundreds and thousands and more Bengtssons who were not connected to others, so we can't speak of a Bengtsson family in those days in Sweden.
