Another area where my Hales settled was Lick Creek. They were brothers and cousins of my Meshack. Meshack, called the little Meshack, who was on Lick Creek, was called that to distinguish him from my Meshack. On my highway map, I see a Lick Creek running along Highway 81, between Knoxville and the intersection with Highway 181, near Johnson City. Can't tell whether it flows into the Holston River or Wautauga Lake. Have to find better old time maps to show me where they were. As far as I know they all had land grants. People could move onto land, register it but had to prove up on it within a cetain time--perhaps 5 years. Good luck. Weather is improving, so I'll soon be able to make that trip. My kids get upset when I take a trip they think is too far or too hard for me. Silly. Iris
