I am searching for the connections of the two households below. I do
Believe in the 1870 Census the household with only H. and D. Saunders
is Hamilton and Docia Saunders/ Sanders. I KNOW they are the second
family listed in the 1880 Census listing next door to John and Eliza Jane
Sanders I have written out below. I am trying to find these families in the
1850 and 1860 Census records.
My questions are .
I believe the household with J. Saunders to be the parents of H. Saunders
in the second household. Does anyone know if this is true?
Before 1870 were they going by Saunders or Sanders, or both?
1880 and forward I find them in records as Sanders. I know what
happened to most of Hamilton and Docias household from 1900 forward.
I am searching for the answers to my questions and I am searching for
anyone with connections to either household listed.
Jackson Hamilton Sanders and Docia Stricklin married in
Haywood Co., Tennessee on 4 Aug 1869.
1870 Census District 7, Madison Co., Tennessee
J. Saunders - age 44 - b. 1826 - TN
L. Saunders - age 40 - b. 1830 - TN
J. Saunders - age 20 - b. 1853 - TN
H. Saunders - age 16 - b. 1854 - TN
M. Saunders - age 14 - b. 1856 -TN
A. Saunders - age 12 - b. 1858 - TN
R. Saunders - age 10 - b. 1860 - TN
J. Saunders - age 8 - b. 1862 - TN
In the next household listed on this census we find:
H. Saunders - age21 - b. 1849 - TN
D. Saunders - age 20 - b. 1850 - TN
I believe the person giving the information to the census taker
this year told them they were all born in Tennessee. I believe Eliza
Jane to be listed as Liza and thus the letter L. Saunders for her.
I believe Nancy J. to be going by her middle initial J.

James T. Sanders age 7 - b. 1873 TN TN - AL
Levi C. Sanders age 5 - b. 1875 TN TN - AL
Elijah B. Sanders age 2 - b. 1878 TN TN - AL
