Ballard family in Cumberland Gap?

I'm trying to find information on our connection to the Ballards in southern Indiana. According to the family tree, the parents of Jackson Ballard (1832-1864) and James "Big Jim" Ballard (1838) were born in the Cumberland Gap area in northeastern Tennessee. Does anyone have information they could pass on?
