Hi all, I am stumped! Reuben Ridley is my father's great-grandfather, and nobody knows anything else about him. Here's what I have:
Dad's great-grandfather was Reuben Ridley, married to Eliza Coleson of Estherville. Reuben (from what I can ascertain) came to Estherville from Texas via Tennessee following the Civil War, during which he served with the 110th Regiment Militia in Henderson, TN as first a Second Major and then a Colonel-Commandant; but at present I'm stumped in terms of anything more. Reuben was also, according to my father, "orphaned during the war." I don't know (and he's not saying) whether or not that means Reuben's East Coast family was killed and he was officially adopted by the Ridleys of Estherville, or whether or not it means he came to Estherville as a result of having noplace else to go and, perhaps, family connections there. So I'm at a bit of an impasse where that is concerned. I know he is listed on another person's family tree as a neighbor of their relation in the 1840 Tennessee census (Henry Lipe) and the 1850 Texas census(Moses Lipe).
The only dates I currently have for Reuben are his birthday (1854) based on subtracting from the date of the census (1925) when he was 71, and that of his wife, Eliza, born in 1867 based on her age of 58 at time of 1925 census. I also know that as of the date of the 1925 census William Ridley, Senior, my grandfather and Reuben's son, was listed as 37 years of age and the head of household and Reuben does not appear on the census so far as I can tell. So there's a five-year window there during which either he died or left...?
