A few items (if you haven't done these already): 1. Get a copy of his application for a Social Security card (he probably completed the application himself, while he was living in California). Here's how: ................................... Date of request: 24 Jul 2008 Social Security Administration OEO FOIA Workgroup 300 N. Green Street P.O. Box 33022 Baltimore, Maryland 21290-3022 Please send me a photocopy of the actual application for a Social Security card (Form SS-5--Social Security Number Record Third Party Request for Photocopy) filed by the person listed below. I obtained this information from the Social Security Death Master file at RootsWeb.com, Inc. who obtained it from the Social Security Death Master file, originally compiled by the Social Security Administration. My understanding is that the fee is $27, when the Social Security number is provided or $29 if the Social Security number is unknown or incorrect. Enclosed is a check or money order for $___________, made payable to the Social Security Administration. Thank you for your assistance. HAMILTON, ELMER 557-03-6705 Birth: 01 Mar 1905 Death: Oct 1985 Sincerely, Address: Daytime Phone Number: ............................. 2. Look for a Kentucky volunteer who might be able to help with local research: http://www.raogk.org/kentucky.htm ............................. 3. His first marriage: do you have date, place, bride, copy of license application and certificate? 4. His son William (your uncle): do you have birth date and place? (Probably born 1920's-30's). Still alive? On the Social Security Death Index? Any siblings (your aunts or uncles)? Any children (your cousins)? Any contact with any descendants of that marriage? 5. His second marriage: same as No. 3. 6. Do you know when he went to California? to Utah? 7. Do you have him in the 1910/20/30 Federal Censuses? 8. Have you searched the Kentucky death index (online at Ancestry.com)? 9. Have you searched the 1880 Census for Boyd County (where Ashland is), Kentucky? Soundex shows no MUDDERS, but MUTTERS in both 1880 and 1900; MATTERS also appears in 1900, but that's probably MUTTERS, too. 10. Have you searched the 1900 and 1910 Boyd County Census for Jack/John HAMILTON of about the right age? Looks like there might be at least one candidate. 11. Do you have documentation for this HAMILTON/MUTTERS marriage? 12. Do you have Elmer's death certificate? Any of these questions may lead you to pieces of information that may help your search back in time. Good luck! Notify Administrator about this message?
