Roy: Have you tried ordering a copy of your Earl Cardin's death certificate to see if it gives his parent's names? I personally believe he (Earl) is the son of Stonewall Jackson Cardin and Mary Ellen Cheek..the last name of Cheek for Mary Ellen has not been verified by me personally. The 1900 Monroe County Tennessee census shows Stonewall Jackson Cardin as John Cardin....I do not know why..one one census he is listed as John Cardin, one as Jackson Cardin and a few as Stonewall Jackson Cardin. The 1900 Monroe County Tennessee census shows John Cardin, born March 1858, age 42, married 14 years, born Tennessee. Ellen, wife, 32, born Sept.1867, children as Bertha, daughter, born Aug 189-)year not plain, Minnie, daughter, born Feb. 1896, Bessie, born July 1899, 11 mo. old, and in their household was Cynthia (Henson)age 84, born March 1816. This was Stonewall Jackson's mother. AND THE 1910 CENSUS SHOWS THE FAMILY IN CALIFORNIA: Stanislaus County, Modesto (city). Cardin,Stonewall J., age 52, First marriage, married 24 years, born TN, wife Mary E., age 42, five children born and five children living, Bertha daughter age 16, Minnie daughter age 14, Bessie age 11, EARL,son, age 7 and Marjorie daughter age 4..all born in Tennessee. Why they were in California I do not know. Stonewall is shown as keeper of a rooming house. I have not found the family on the 1920 census yet but Monroe County TN cemetery records show Stonewall Cardin died April 1927, age 69 years, buried Shady Grove Baptist Church one mile west of Jalapa, Tennessee. Stonewall Cardin filed a Cherokee Claim on August 1, 1907 in which he gave information on his parents as Leonard Cardin and Syntha Henson Cardin. (To the best I could find he filed under the Henson side of the family and the claim I looked at did not show the claim approved. ) Now the odd thing about this situation is the fact that Stonewall Jackson Cardin is not named when estate records were handled after Cynthia died about 1905. She was given use of Leonard's land until her death..or I should say the use of her and Leonard's land. Now, I must look for Stonewall again on the 1920 census. Do you live in Monroe County Tennessee? If so, I sure would like to know if Stonewall really died in 1927, but he would have to have died then in order to have been 69 years old when he died....Thanks for contacting me. Bobbie Cardin in Louisiana
