HI LESLEY,

THE COMMUNITY OF COLETOWN IS NOT VERY BIG. COPPERHILL IS WAS A MINING TOWN. THE COMPANY SHUT THE MINES DOWN SEVERAL YEARS AGO. ALL THAT IS LEFT OF THE COMPANY IS A SO2 PLANT AND A SOAP PLANT. THESE WERE PART OF THE ORIGINAL TENNESSEE COPPER COMPANY NAME CHANGED TO CITY SERVICE COMPANY THEN CHANGED INTERTRADE THEN CHANGED TO BIT.

THE "COMPANY" AS EVERYBODY AROUND HERE CALLS IT EMPLOYED THE MAJORITY OF THE EASTERN END OF POLK COUNTY AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER.

I CHECKED IN THE PHONE BOOK AND THERE WASN'T ANY PALMERS LISTED HERE. THERE MAY BE SOME OF THE FAMILY YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IN THE CHATTANOOGA AREA.

YOU MAY BE ABLE TO CHECK WITH THE DUCKTOWN BASIN MUSEUM IN DUCKTOWN TO SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY INFORMATION FROM THE MINES ON THE PALMER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. THIS MUSEUM HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE INTERESTED IN THE MINING ASPECT OF THIS COMMUNITY. THE PHONE NUMBER IS 423-496-5778. HOPEFULLY ONE OF THE VOLUNTEERS CAN BE OF MORE HELP.

IF YOU NEED ANYMORE INFO THAT I MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU WITH LET ME KNOW.

HOPE THIS HELPED

BOB& LIBBY STUART
