Granville Lafayette "Fate" DeRossett, was born in 1861, in Cumberland County, TN. In 1893, he married Margaret A. "Maggie" Roddy, who was born in 1860, in Rhea County, the daughter of Jesse Preston Roddy and Emily McClane Roddy.
After marrying, Fate and Maggie moved to Texas in 1893 or 1894, possibly with his father-in-law, Jesse Preston Roddy. Their first two sons, Robert Roddy DeRossett and Walter Brown DeRossett, were born in TX, in 1894 and 1898, respectively.
In January 1898, Jesse Preston Roddy, died in Lancaster, Dallas County, TX. Shortly thereafter, Fate returned with his family to TN. The 1900 Census shows Fate, Maggie, Robert, and Walter, living in Cumberland County, in the vicinity of Grassy Cove.
Fate and Maggie's third son, Verden, was born in TNin 1901. Sometime between 1902 and 1910, Maggie and her sons returned to TX. The 1910 Census has her living as a widow with her three sons in Lancaster, TX. When and where Fate died is unknown. His death is not listed in the TX Index of Deaths for 1903 to 1940; likewise, no listing of his death has been found in the TN State Archives.
Maggie died in Lancaster, TX, in 1939. Would you happen to have any more information about the death of Maggie's husband, Fate? Any assistance you can provide would be greately appreciated.
