Thank you for your reply. Our ancestor's name as it appears on the 1890 Veterans' Schedule is "Kate Gotherd", widow of U.S. Soldier. Her surname had been spelled "Gothard" on other non-related documents.

No, I am not using the Rhea & Meigs Counties Surviving Soldiers and Widows by the Rhea County Historical and Genealogical Society. I didn't know there was such a book ... would this book be able to give us further information on Kate's husband's name? Would appreciate any information. Thank you for your help.
