Rhea,
I had e-mailed NARA to see if they could conduct a search with just the widow's name. They replied that they would need the U.S.Soldier's name. I may go ahead and mail in a search request and see what happens. I also have obtained a wealth of information for another ancestor from his widow's pension application file. I would love to find the same for Kate but am not very optimistic. Thanks again for your post and information.
