George Washington Williamson (b. 1804, VA) married Eleanor Steele in 1834 is there some truth to this, or is it entirely spurious? There is an obvious discrepancy. The family, originally from VA moved to Rutherford Co. TN about 1811. Please see below:
On the internet, there is a Williamson Website noting that George Washington Williamson (1804-1884), son of Ludi and Susan Williamson of VA and brother of Beverly Adam Williamson married Eleanor Steele in 1834.
My ancestor, Geo. Washington Williamson, married Edna DeJarnatt on 31 Dec 1829 in Hernando MS (Barksdale-Williamson-Brown Bible family records). From a compilation of biographies of Mississippians, "The Mississippi Biographical," published 1905, pp. 881-883, we have the following concerning their son, Judge Rob't White Williamson and his ancestry:
"He was born near Murfreesboro, Rutherford Co., TN and is a son of George W. and Edna DeJarnatt Williamson, the former of whom was born in Virginia, in 1804, while the latter was born in TN, in 1809. Ludi Williamson, grandfather of the judge, was likewise a native of VA, where the family was founded in the early colonial era, and he removed with his family to TN about 1811, becoming one of the pioneers of Rutherford Co., while the DeJarnatt family was also early established there, having come from VA. Geo. W. Williamson removed with his family to MS in 1834, locating in that portion of Carroll Co. which is now comprised in Grenada Co., where he became a successful planter and influential citizen and where he continued to reside until his death, in 1884, while his loved and devoted wife passed away in 1888."
