William Roberts, Sr. and Catherine Rogers were born 100 years before 1865. You are going to have to break your generations down with places and dates because we don't seem to be on the same page, but are talking about the same NAMES only.

Start with your Thomas Roberts. Exactly what can you document about his life? Birth, death, marriage, wife, children, courthouse records, taxes, military service, etc. And, I do mean document and not just family traditional stories which are never 100% correct.

However, after saying all that--what story or document do you have that leads you to William Roberts who married Catherine Rogers?

Roberts and Rogers are just like Smith and Jones in the area in which you are lookiing. I can document at least 5 or 6 different Rogers families. Some have ties, but they are not all related to each other as one is lead to believe

There are documents in Lee Co. VA which prove that William Roberts was married to a Catherine. There is an old journal written by Hurd Rogers where he says that Doswell b. 1736 (There are MANY Doswell/Dauswell Rogers in this area.) had a dau named Catherine. Then there are records where these Roberts and the Rogers are interwined. Personally, I do not have a document that says THIS Catherine IS the dau of Doswell. It is all based on circumstancial records found in VA. Plus, the Roberts descendants apparently knew that at least in their family traditional stories that she was Catherine Rogers the dau of Doswell. It was years after I wrote my book that I even knew that she even existed.
