Always heard rumors of kin to Sam Houston and Cherokee grandparents. Their were no records and birth certificates kept as the area of Tenessee where my kinfolk were born was remote and extremely poor. Never really researched my family tree. Would like to know more Parton connections and relatives in Sevier County Tennessee. Pittman Center is where my father was born. His father was named George Washington Parton who I am told had all brothers named after US presidents. Grover Cleveland is the only other name I ever heard. George Washington's father was named Mitch (not mitchell) Parton and was said to have been killed crossing a railroad bridge near Knoxville. This is also reported in Dolly Parton's biography. Rumored that Dolly's grandfather and my great grandfather were brothers, but I never talked to her or heard any names. I once met Dolly and her Uncle Fred, although it was only briefly and in 1978 in Germany while she was on tour. Mitch Parton's father is said to have been named Albert Houston Parton. This may be from the 1820's which is rumored to be the connection to Sam Houston in the Knoxville, Tennessee area. It was always told by any relatives that I met (while a child) that Sam Houston's real name was Parton, and he changed it in order to avoid all his bad activities in the East Tennessee area. Cannot really find out any more information as to cousins or uncles. One uncle was named Homer and was in a wheelchair. I once saw him when I was a child. I am 53 this year and would like to find out more connections for my son, Gabriel Joseph Parton. Would love more information. www.edparton@edparton.com Notify Administrator about this message?
