The Kemps were connected to the Goad family. Have you checked Macon County as these families were there after 1842 when Macon was broken away from Smith County.
Francis A. Goad married Laura Kemp ca 1870. His sister Mary Belle married Robert S. Clement and they were the parents of Gov. Frank Goad Clement.
In ca 1855, Henry S. Goad went to Madison County, Mo. with a Mr. Kemp.
I may have a bit more detail.
