Here is what I have for James & Eleanor's family. I've worked with numerous people on the Kemps and no one to my knowledge has found James Kemp Parents.
We feel he went to Madison Co. MO with Ellis Beverly Kemp. Ellis B. was killed during the Civil War by guerillas. I believe James Kemp also died during that time period in Madison Co. MO.
I believe but have not seen, that the Madison Co. MO History states that he was Ellis B. Kemp's brother. The only problem with that is that Ellis B. Kemp's mother Lucretia does not name a James Kemp as a son in her will. James age also does not fit with any of the children of Jinks and Lucretia that have been recorded in Smith Co. histories on this family?
Eleanor "Ellen" Kemp returned to Smith Co. with her children in by 1870 census.
The last I have on Millard Franklin Kemp is 1880 census Madison Co. MO.

1. JAMES A/S.1 KEMP was born Abt. 1816 in Tennessee, and died Bef. 1870. He married ELEANOR A. "ELLEN" THOMAS Bef. 1843 in Smith County, Tennessee, daughter of WILLIAM THOMAS and NANCY YOUNG. She was born Bet. 1823 - 1825 in Tennessee.

Children of JAMES KEMP and ELEANOR THOMAS are:
       i.       WILLIAM H.2 KEMP, b. Abt. 1843, Smith County, Tennessee.
       ii.       ELIZABETH KEMP, b. Abt. 1845, Smith County, Tennessee.
       iii.       JOHN N. KEMP, b. Abt. 1847, Smith County, Tennessee.
       iv.       JAMES L/T KEMP, b. Abt. 1849, Smith County, Tennessee.
       v.       MAGGIE KEMP, b. Bet. 1851 - 1853, Smith County, Tennessee; m. WILLIAM S. HEWITT, JR., November 09, 1871, Smith County, Tennessee; b. Abt. 1850, Tennessee.
       vi.       HENDERSON PARTIE KEMP, b. Bet. 1852 - 1857, Missouri; m. NANCY HALL, Bet. 1880 - 1882; d. Bet. 1890 - 1900.
       vii.       MILLIARD FRANKLIN KEMP, b. June 22, 1855, Madison County, Missouri; m. NANCY CAROLINE SANDERS, May 05, 1878, Madison County, Missouri; b. December 24, 1855, Mt.Pisgah, DryCreek Community, Missouri; d. September 13, 1920.
       viii.       GEORGE FRANKLIN KEMP, b. Abt. 1859, Madison County, Missouri; m. VIRGINIA MATHEWS, November 02, 1881, Smith County, Tennessee; b. March 1852.

Have not proven beyond doubt that the George Franklin Kemp that married Virginia Mathews is James and Ellen's son, but I think this connection is correct?
