Hobson and Flippin

The 1880 census mortality schedule for Smith County (Civil District 17) states that one Pendleton Hobson died in May 1880 at the age of 62. He was reported as single, born in Virginia to parents both born in VA. The notation states that he was from family number 99.

Family 99 in CD17 was the family of George Flippen and wife Parthene. Goodspeed's biographical info on the Smith County GenWeb site identifies George C. Flippin as a son of Abner A. and Eliza HOBSON Flippin, and states that his wife was Parthenia Heelmantoller.

Looking for any record of Pendleton before 1880. I cannot seem to find him in any census either as Hobson or Hopson, or as Pen* or P or Edm?nd.

Any mention of him in Smith County records?
