Eleanor, I think we have been in touch before. Rufus did have a brother, Joseph D. I however do not know very much about him. I do not know when he left TN or where he went for sure. He left sometime after the 1880 census and I don't find anyone that could be him until 1910 census. Here is what I have found that I believe to be him.

Then I find in the Calif. Death Index
Joseph D. Dillow, Death Date: 13 Mar 1942, b. TN
I have not found a death date for Anna.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Have you gotten his death cert. from Calif?
