*NEW SITE* Tocher Family History

Hi Duncan. Good timing - I am in the process of building a new site covering, amongst other things, Tocher family history. It is available as of today, thehome page being found at

http://www.tenoaks.fsnet.co.uk

You will find the link from there. The site will help with some of what you are asking about. The 'tax collector' origin is not one I have come across before, but just might be grounded in the fact that the word "tocher" in the Scots language (as opposed to Gaelic) means "dowry"; occasionally it is also used in reference to an inheritance.

I would be grateful for any feedback to care to give on the site (bearing in mind that I still have more to add)
