George Tocher was born in 1822 at Standingstones in the parish of Dyce, Aberdeenshire, the son of Alexander Tocher and Lilis Davidson. I can find no trace of him until 1861 when he appears on the 1861 census for Drumoak living with James Tocher at Stonefield:
James Tocher head 72 born Oldmachar
Margaret Tocher wife 52 born Drumoak
George Tocher boarder 38 born Dyce
Mary Anderson boarder 78 Retired Innkeeper b Aberdeen
James Tocher married Margaret Anderson 1848 Drumoak.
In 1864 George Tocher married Maria Halket, daughter of John Halket and Maria Diack, George’s address given at the time as Cults.
George and Maria lived at Drum Cottage in the parish of Drumoak and George died in Drumoak in 1876. They had four children: George born 1865 Cults, Catherine b 1867 Banchory Devenick, Mary born 1874 Drumoak, John born 1869 Drumoak.
I am trying to establish the relationship between George Tocher and James Tocher and would also be interested to know where George Tocher was at the time of the 1851 census.
