I am a descendentant of the Tocher family from Bangalore India. My late Grandmother Helen Tocher was the granddaughter of the the late James Tocher who was born in Scotland.

I have in my possession a copy of a letter written to her by her brother Herby. The letter was written on the 17th. March 1949, from "Panthera" Agram, Bangalore India. "Panthera" ws the name of their farm. Apparently the family also owned Tocher and Toucher Taxidermy Specialists, in Bangalore, India.

He mentions that their Grandfather was in the artillery, attached to the ordinance Corps. Rank Conductor and says he had a photo of him taken in Manchester, England. He goes on to say taht he died of Cholera in Madras in 1866 and was buried at the St. Marys Cementry Madras.
Their Grandmother was Anne Tocher. He goes on to say that his aunt Emma mentioned that their grandfather came out to India with the East India Company and also served in the China War.

There are lots of names mentioned in the letter but no Sir names. Herbys sons names were George, Douglas,Derick and they most likely stayed on in India after Independance. I think he ahd daughters as well.

Please contact me if you are able to link up any more memebers to our family tree. I will gald to assist you with more information if I can.

Hope to ehar from you.

Kathhleen Chue (Nee Duffy)

I am also trying to find out about my Mums and Dads ancestory. My Dads name was Patrick Willaim Duffy and my Mums Mavis Margaret Conn. They were both marrried in Madras India. My Dads Father Llewellyn Duffy married Helen Tocher my Dads Mother.
