Hello Julie: I learned that John Tolan was from Moville, Donegal, Irland. I am a little frustrated at this time because this is as far as I have been able to research but we all keep trying right LOL. I have been researching off and on since I had a genealogy project in college while taking some late classes about 3 years ago.
Anyway, let me see if I can say this right so it makes sense, my mother Betty Jo Tolan Holtkamp, mother: Lillian Mabel Schooling married to A. J. Tolan. Her dad was John Lewis Marion Schooling and mother was Lorena Jennings. I think my grandmother was Saba's sister-in-law. You probably already know this but I wanted to show where my understanding was. One of the Schoolings; a cousin of my mom Betty Jo Tolan has done a genealogy study some years ago and has a line back to Jamestown, again you may know more about all this than I, my mother sent me the charts and info and I have been trying to research the Tolan line as much as possible but so far That Donegal, Ireland bit is as far as I have gotten(new info). I have this copy of a pic of the Tolans, John and Nancy with children Bertha, Mattie, Henry, Mary Mae, Andrew(A. J.), Ada Lee, Ernest, Saba Ann, and Clarence. I met some of those, I vaguely remember Ada'a name and Clarence and some of the others when I was a young boy. We visited them in Roanoke I believe but that was many years ago when I was mayuby 6 or 8. I am now 57, just to give you some context. Do you have this genealogy info? I just looked up who it was that did the research and he is Dwight (Sonny) Schooling I believe, I do not know him but you may well. My mother got the info I have from him except that I did not know that John F. Tolan was born in Ireland. I am sorry to be so long winded but I am interested in all of the genealogy of our families, I find it addictive, don't you? I hope we can help each other find new info as time goes on. Thanks for getting back to me. I am interested in any new info you might have as well.
Thanks again & have a
nice day. Andrew Holtkamp
