Morgan Reunion August 21, 1932 IN
Over the summer, I had the opportunity to visit Dorothy Ilene Everman, the daughter of Cal Morgan (b. 11 Sept. 1877 Callaway County, Missouri, d. 5 Feb 1958 Montgomery, Daviess County, Indiana). During the visit she gave me some wonderful family keepsakes, which I’m hoping will help me to unlock the mystery of the parents ofJohn B. (b. 26 Aug 1811 d. 17 Jun 1852 Washington County, Indiana) and Thomas Albert Morgan (25 Aug 1805, d. 9 Jun 1889 Washington County, Indiana).
The Tolsonfamily joined the Morgan family when Sarah Ann (b. 19 Dec 1844 Fredericksburg, Washington County, IN; m. 9 Jan 1865 Washington, Daviess County, IN, d. 15 Dec 1934 Washington, Daviess County, IN) married George William Tolson (b. 24 Dec 1842 Pottsville, Schulykill County, Pennsylvania, d. 12 Apr 1925 Washington, Daviess County, IN).
A news clipping reads -“The fourth annual Morgan family reunion was held at Eastside park Sunday, August 21. At the noon hour 175 relatives enjoyed a bountiful basket dinner. Mrs. Iola Chester returned thanks. Her granddaughters, Geralde, Chastene and Joyce Carter, furnished music and entertainment.
The oldest Morgan present was Mrs. Sallie Tolson, who is eighty-seven. After the dinner an interesting business meeting was held. The officers were re-elected for the coming year as follow; Bruce Kay, Fredericksburg, president; Russell Loughmiller, secretary; Sam Morgan, Cannelburg, historian.
Sam Morgan has been studying the genealogy of the Morgan family for several years and has gathered valuable data about the family.
The Morgan family has been traced to the fourth century and to Welsh origin. John and Miles Morgan came to America in 1615 from Bristol, England, and settled in New London, Virginia. General John H. Morgan, the rebel general of the Civil War, was a member of this family.
John and Thomas Morgan settled in Indiana in 1826 at Fredericksburg. Gimbol and Volney Morgan, sons of John, were the first to settle in Daviess County.
The fifth annual reunion will be held at French Lick city park the third Sunday in August, 1933.”
Parts from another clipping – “The first reunion was held August 28, 1929. In attendance were – Rev Charles Andrew of Concord, IL; Bruce Kayes and family, Edwin Kayes and family, Mrs. Effie Kayes, Miss Ella Morgan and Mr & Mrs Herbert Morgan, all of Fredericksburg, IN; Everett, Joe and Russell of Detroit, MI; Mr and Mrs Thomas Morgan of Danville, IL; and Mrs. Burl Grannan and her daughter of Detroit, MI.”
Who are the parents of John and Thomas Morgan? Are there any other siblings? Where are they from? Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you, Colleen
