Hi Jill,No I did not think you were necessarilyseeking Strays as I think they must all be indexed to date which would obviously be your first place of search. However there are a couple of questions I'd like to ask. Angie and Jim Tunkin and I had an interesting three weeks searching old cemeteries for Tonkin's and naturally found several. Question one;-In the churchyard of the old church at St. Just, as you enter the main entrance to the left side following the old stone wall, several grave stones had been moved and stood against the wall (or stone fence)A huge stone had slipped down and obviously was being used as a stepping stone to get past. This was to a Dorothy Tonkin and was quite an old relic. I felt she must have had some importance to have such a huge stone but have been unable to find out anything about her. Maybe you may see it if you live in Penwith. Also there is or was a grave just out of the town of ST.Just which I think was the grave of a John Tonkin who was killed in the big mine crash and I wondered what that story might be. I think his relative was a Mary Thomas, several of her family went to USAbut I'd have to go back into old files. I did have correspondence with this lady whose connections were also another well known name Tresize or Tresise. You may E-mail me and it would be easier E-mailing you direct as Genforum tells me I cannot reply directly as you use some other type of machine. How I wish I could get more efficient at using this machine!
However I rejoined the new computer class today and realise how much I am missing by not being able to understand all the info., I have to read to know anything. Oh well the Doc.
says I'm doing better than he thought possible so I'll just have to stop playing solitaire! and settle down to learning againPEG TONKIN.
