I am a descendant of William & Jane Tonks. I have some information from my cousin Hylton Gary Tonks who has done extensive research on the family as far back as 1620's at which point further research was impossible.

It is interesting to note that the family resided in Wellington Shrophsire for at least two hundred years before emigrating to Wellington NZ.

Williams Tonks, was one of 5 children of Jonathan & Hannah Tonks, was baptised at Wellington on 13 July 1806. He married Jan Ingram on 23 June 1828 at Wrockwardine in Shropshire. His father Jonathan married Hannah Dunning At Wrockwardine on 24 March 1799. He was a labourer living at Lawley Bank in the Parish of Wellington, where he died on 14 November 1844.

I have more names and dates back to 1620's if interested.
