The following was just passed on to me. It is based on hand-written copies of the census and unverified. But since it may give you as it has me something to further your research I pass it along:
1870 census Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Vol. 88 pg. 28.
Tonks, Jonathon 53 coal miner
Maria 41 keeping house
James 19 coal miner
Jonathon 17 coal miner
Benjamin 11 at home
George E. 9
Jonathon and Maria’s eldest son Samuel is in my wife’s line. Two things to note and speculate on:
1) They have a son Benjamin. Is he the Benjamin you are researching?
2) Maria’s age is right for being the one buried in Evergreen Cemetery assuming her married name was given to you.
…something to research/verify. Let me know what you find.
