Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

WIlliam is one of the recurring names in the Topham dynsasty - there are dozens of them! Any clues what part of the world he was born/lived in? THere is a big clan in leeds/bradford and also Hampstead around that time. I know Tophams bought Aintree after WWII.
Hope this helps, let me know if you think your William may be part of these groups.
Tim
