Looking for Sarah TOPHAN (TOPAN/TOPPIN), born in the early 1800's in Wentworth County, Ontario, CN. Family tradition indicates she was of Dutch descent. I know nothing of her family background. She married James Stewart of Binbrook, Ontario, and their first child, Nancy Stewart, was born in 1825. They lived mostly in Burford, Brant Ct., Ontario, CN, and raised a family of ten children. Sarah died January 1851, after the birth of the tenth child, Sarah Matilda, who is my Great Grandmother. Sarah and James Stewart are buried in the Congregational Cemetery, Burford, Ontario, CN. I would like to contact anyone having knowledge of any Tophan families in Wentworth County or other parts of Ontario, CN. One clue I have is that Sarah Tophan's family may have emigrated from Pennsylvania.
