Hello,
The Samuel Torbert you mention, if he was born 1757, was the second child of James Torbert and Hanna Burleigh. They had 12 children. My information is that he married Elizabeth Keith. I don't have dates for her. This Samuel was a captain in the 2d Pennsylvania Regiment in the Revolutionary War. This Samuel and Elizabeth are supposed to have had a daughter named Phoebe who danced with George Washington. (I'm not making this up). He also has an uncle named Samuel, Jr., who was named after his father, the first Samuel Torbert, in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
Sam I born abt. 1695, Carrickfergus, Ireland.
Sam ,Jr., born 1734, Newtown, PA.
Sam, son of James Torbert and Hannah Burleigh, born 1757. James was the oldest child of the first Sam. Your Sam's eleven siblings were married to folks named McNair, Keith,Gibson, Slack, Teate, Hare, Search, and Vasey. The siblings with their dates are posted in the message by Allison Torbert Beeler.
My direct ancestors in that generation were Col. Abner Torbert(born 12-11-1780) and Jane Gibson. They moved to Hamilton, Butler Co., Ohio. Their fifth child, Anthony, born 1814, married Lucinda Robertson. Their 2d child, James was my great-grandfather and he married Rowanna Pettijohn. They homesteaded near Hector, Minnesota. My grandparents were Charles Franklin Torbert and Candace Thompson. My father was Bernard Lamont Torbert and mother was Grace Caroline Johnson. Starting with Samuel, I am in the 8th generation of our branch in the U.S. My children are the 9th generation.
There are other Torberts who have more generations in the U.S. There was a Hugh Torbert in Delaware in 1680, who had two sons.
Sincerely,
Eugene C. Torbert
